| Who can add items to the database? |
The Registry is a database used to record the valuable property of students, faculty and staff at The Ohio State University, to aid in record keeping and promote recovery of property should it be lost or stolen. Only students, faculty and staff of the University, including all of the regional campuses and centers, may enter property in the file.
The Registry may be searched only by password. Such access will be limited to risk assessment and law enforcement personnel who may search for the owner if an item of property is recovered. |
| What can be added to the database? |
| Only valuable items with an identifiable (serial or RFID) number may be added to the Registry.Laptop and tabletop computers, valuable bicycles, DVD players, televisions, and technical equipment like GPS units may, for example, be entered. The database is purged every four years of items. Students are encouraged to also maintain a written record at home of the items listed. |

It is better to prevent theft than search for lost or stolen items. Secure valuable property, leave items at home if not needed on campus, and always lock your door!
