Tom Davis gives Buckeye Leadership Fellows iPads

University supporter Tom W. Davis made a great contribution to the inaugural class of the Buckeye Leadership Fellows program this fall with the donation of 20 iPad2's-one for each Fellow.  Davis is chairman of United Pool Distribution, a transportation and logistics company headquartered in Columbus.  He has enjoyed supporting Ohio State students for several years by providing significant funding for scholarships and facilities such as the Tom W Davis Climbing Center and Tom W Davis Special Events Gym.

The students were thrilled with the surprise gifts, which they have been using in their leadership challenge project for the quarter.  As an exercise in creative thinking, teamwork, and marketing, they worked in small groups to capture videos of people doing "the wave" in a philanthropic fund-raiser.  The challenge was designed by Dave Wilson, also an alumnus and CEO of Wilson RMS, a New York marketing firm.  The fellows traveled to New York City after the end of the quarter to present their projects to Wilson and colleagues.

The Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program is a comprehensive approach to developing undergraduate students into leaders who have a greater understanding of who they are as individuals, what motivates them, and how they can successfully navigate professional world leadership challenges.  What makes BLF unique is that OSU alumni and community leaders serving in roles that range from organizational psychologists to CEOs help design and actively participate in the program.  Upon completion of the first year of the program, the students will have developed a robust personalized development plan that is filled with insight from the various professional world challenges that they will have participated in throughout the year.  In addition, they will have built strong connections with alumni and community leaders and have a better sense of what their goals are and how to accomplish them. Fellows will be expected to stay engaged with the program after graduation.  The program officially launched fall quarter of 2011 with the inaugural class of 20 select juniors.
