Dr. J's message for Dec. 4-11, 2011
Here we are at the end of the quarter already, and it's time for me to send out congratulations, good wishes, and a few reminders.
First, congratulations to those of you who are graduating next week. I look forward to seeing you at commencement exercises, and I wish each of you great happiness and success in the next steps of your lives. Thank you for all that you have contributed to the Ohio State community as a student, and know that as alumni you are still very important members of the Buckeye family. Stay in touch!
Best wishes to those who are preparing for final exams. Study hard, but don't forget that getting enough sleep is also vital to being at your mental peak. Check out the beautiful light display at Mirror Lake--it's a short and uplifting detour on your way to or from the library.
There are a couple of things you should do before leaving town for the winter break:
- Pack up your valuables and take them home with you. Columbus Police will be running their "burglary special" patrols over the holidays, but it is not a good idea to leave electronics, jewelry, or other easily stolen items in unoccupied apartments and houses. It's also a good idea to review your renter's insurance
- If you use the COTA bus system and have a BuckID issued before March 2010, when the BuckID office moved to the new Ohio Union, stop by the BuckID office on the third floor and get a free replacement. After January 1, you will need to swipe your BuckID to ride the COTA busses without paying a fare. Cards with the old Lincoln Tower address on them are not coded for this and must be replaced. There's no charge if you turn in your old card.
Last but not least, please have a wonderful holiday season. Whatever you do and wherever you go, I hope you have fun, connect with family and friends, and refresh yourself in preparation for an exciting winter quarter. Travel safely, and I'll see you back here in January!
